Dearest;
Just received your letter of the 2nd which someone kindly sent on from Berlin. I am hastening to return the prospectus of your trip as you asked for it back. You will enjoy it without doubt; you have not had much pleasure of this kind in your young life, and I am delighted to think you will see the Riviera which certainly is worth seeing.
I am spending these days in a hectic whirl of excitement flying from one thing to another from morn till night; I have a room at a palatial place belonging I suppose to one of the merchant princes of the town. You should see the massive furniture, the Macs would be green with envy! I wear a “badge of honour”, which admits me everywhere; the badge is of an incredible ugliness but nevermind, it’s useful. I have seen everything and nothing; it’s all an undigested mass, as time is so short. All nations and tongues are here, it’s like a steam-driven kaleidoscope. The Fair authorities are treating us royally. I am off somewhere again and must close for the moment. Love to all; you will hear from me before you depart for the sunny clime.
Thine
Jack.
