Dearest;
Herewith the monthly cheque, also a letter from Frank Grundy which is interesting. You might return it to me later. He is in an enviable position, independent from dictators and bosses, and able to live where he likes. He chose his father well!
There is plenty of sunshine here, too, although the thermometer keeps about freezing point; but none of those damp dreary days I know so well. They, however, are useful, because one doesn’t mind working, whereas here, one likes to get out in the sun. That I have been able to do the last few days, as my hours in February were the usual evening ones. In March I change about to the day job.
I will send you my Polish and Lithuanian stories now that they have all been printed. You need not keep them. Let me know as soon as you are fixed up for your trip with Minnie B.
I have just spoken over telephone with Mrs. Schurholz who has been in bed for some time with rheumatism and lumbago. She had received Mary’s letter and said she was very well satisfied with it and thought Mary would be very happy with them. I shall meet them in town after I return from Leipzig and then they are going to Italy for a holiday (which they gave a miss last year) on March 10 and she suggested May 15 as an appropriate date for Mary to begin.
I think I will have Mary here 10 or 14 days before that, so that she may become acclimatized, and if possible I should like to come over and fetch her. I don’t know what business complications we may have here, and if I cannot come, she will have to make the journey alone. We will see nearer the time.
Love to all,
Thine,
Jack
