Text

Nov. 25

Dearest,

I have just got orders to go to Lithuania and Poland to report on troubles there; I suppose I shall be away a couple of weeks if the situation clears itself. I intended to write you a long letter about the Pension which I now find quite comfortable and the meals excellent. The chief meal is at midday and the first one I had there was in the evening just a sort of high tea.

I had to send Patrick another cheque from Serfolk and now he returns me £10 as per enclosed letter which you can tear up afterwards. So “old grouchy” isn’t such a bad chap after all. Only I don’t think this is the time for buying “gewgaws”.

You can put the cheque into your bank along with the other for £40 herewith. I have enclosed Patrick’s cheque so you needn’t do anything more.

Mrs. Petri’s address is Nassanische strasse 35
                                    Wilmersdorf. Berlin
if you like to write her. I haven’t been to see them yet.

Mary had better get her photo taken and send one to me in case people like to see what she looks like.

No more time just now. All my love,
Thine,
J.
