Dearest;

    Here I am back once more, and tumbled right into a lot of work, as two men are away on their holiday and Enderis still in Vienna; but he is expected back very soon. Lochner has been running the whole show and he is anxious to get away too, for his children are with his wife in the country, the children having just recovered from measles. Here newspaper people are in the throes of excitement about transatlantic flights &c., same as in London.

    From the station I went straight to the Adlon and found I was correct in presuming that a room had been reserved for me. Everybody smiling and bowing recognition. Nice little room on 2nd floor with bath &c. as usual. After a wash up I went straight to the office, where I still am at 10 pm, as I wanted to write to Gerfalk, Aagaard &c. besides yourself, and there were heaps of matters I had to become acquainted with.

    The railway journey was uneventful. At first it was somewhat cold, but the sun came out later. No rain today. On the train I had a meal for 3s/3, which was quite equivalent to the previous night’s dinner of 5s/6 on the Liverpool train.

    Americans are ubiquitous. One man in a compartment next to mine never stopped talking all the way between the Hook and Berlin. You could hear him at the other end of the train, almost.

    Although the crossing was smooth, I slept badly, so am now going to my little room, under a claret coloured coverlet.

With much love to all,
Doc
