Dearest,
Just received yours of the 4th. I was afraid it would be a case of double pneumonia when I heard your earlier particulars about Isobel; it is a severe trial on the parents; I am deeply sorry for them – it is a long business I am afraid and very dangerous. I hope she will pull through, it would be a stunning blow for Mr. MacKenzie if she didn’t, as we all know she is the apple of his eye; please tell him of my sympathy and best wishes when you see him.
I wrote you only last night, so have no further news. I don’t think I mentioned a letter from Mr. Collins, saying he hoped I would not be away very much longer. He said the new offices were very cold and smelt very much of fresh paint and varnish, and to add to his happiness, there had been a heavy fog.
This notice from the Westminster Bank is a puzzler. I have not stopped, nor issued, a cheque for £7.18.6 in favor of – Coggins – (Coggins, good Lord! whoever knows a fellow named Coggins??) and I have told the Bank so today, asking for any explanation to be sent on to 10 Stanhope Rd. If anything comes, you can send it on to me or tell me about it, if you think it would make a letter too heavy.
Love Jack
