Text

Hon. Woodrow Wilson,
President of The United States,
The White House,
Washington, D. C.

Sir:-

The Equity Congress of Greater New York is an Organization composed of Colored men whose object is to defend the rights and conserve the interests of Colored people.

At our meeting held on the 15th instant, the matter of the interview at the White House on the 12th instant between yourself and a Delegation of the National Independent Political League of the U.S.A., and which delegation was headed by Mr. W. Monroe Trotter, was discussed and we ordered to send you this communication.

The Congress regrets to note that you as President of the United States should express yourself as being in sympathy with the unjust, discriminating and un-American policy of Segregation that has been instituted in several of the Government Departments at Washington by members of your Cabinet.

The sentiment of this Congress, and we believe of the Colored people of the United States, is succinctly expressed in the Editorial of the New York World of November 13th, and which Editorial we inclose as part of this letter to your Excellency.

Done by order of the Equity Congress, in witness whereof we have affixed our names at the City of New York, this 20th day of November, 1914.

S. Augustus Duncan
Deputy Speaker, Equity Congress.

Attest,
Robert A. Waith,
Secretary.
