My dear Carey

I am getting away in a few hours and I want to say good bye and God bless you. Every day of my association with you has drawn me closer to you, and your unselfish and loyal devotion to the President has made everybody who loves him your debtor.

There is one thing I would like you to do. The President appointed Mr. Woodbury Assistant Secretary of the Navy and he has served with such spirit as to draw me very close to him. He is going to be here a few days at the University Club. Of course he has wished to see the President and knowing conditions I have not tried to arrange it before now. Before he goes away I would appreciate it if you will arrange for him to call to see the President.

Faithfully yours,

Josephus Daniels
