Dear Mr. Baruch
We wrote last year for the Babylon Hospital to Mr. Ralph Hayes Secretary to Gen. Baker, about the possibility of securing one of the Government ambulances for the use of the Babylon Hospital, but we were never able to accomplish anything. They notified us of a sale of these ambulances at Indianapolis; but we had to send as much as the ambulance was worth, new, to get it home, and take a chance on it being broken up.
Perhaps you know the Babylon Hospital is supported entirely by voluntary contributions and by subscribers through the southside, between Babylon and Hempstead and the different ladies’ auxiliaries. It is the only public hospital between Southampton and Mineola. We really think that it is one of the greatest charities in this section.
If there is any possible way that we could get the Government to either loan us or sell us for a nominal sum one of the medium sized ambulances like the Dodge, Buick or GMC we certainly would appreciate your interest in this matter, as I presume thousands of them will be sold for scrap or junk. No doubt there are quite a number of them at Camp Upton, which we understand is to be closed up.
Trust you will pardon me for writing you about this matter again.
Would your good friend, Dr. Grayson, be able to get a word in to the medical authorities who have charge of these matters to help us out?
Yours very truly,
Jeremiah Robbins
