Dear Admiral
We had the pleasure of spending a few days at Christmas time in Washington, and I am writing to say that while I fully intended to see you, and hoped to present my compliments to Mrs. Grayson, this is an apology for not doing so. A trip to Washington without seeing you is no trip at all.
Won’t you accept for yourself and your charming family Mrs. Allen’s and my own, very best wishes for a Happy and Prosperous New Year?
Sincerely yours,
Sherman Allen
