My dear Sir:-
On behalf of the Institute I take pleasure in extending to you a very cordial invitation to address us the coming fall or winter on the subject of reminiscences of our Presidents, or a related topic. Your intimate knowledge of national events and personalities during the past twenty years would make such an address of great interest and we trust you can send us a favorable reply.
The Institute would be pleased to pay you for the same an honorarium of $250, and I have no doubt we could meet your convenience as to date, either before or after Christmas, preferably after in connection with some visit to New York. Our meetings are held in the Brooklyn Academy of Music and assemble audiences from our 10,000 Members representative of the thoughtful class of citizens.
The work of the Institute is wholly educational in aim, involving no element of private profit. In its existence of nearly one hundred years it has made an enviable record in the field of adult education and is addressed each season by scholars, scientists, and men and women of leadership in the life of our Nation.
Will you kindly turn the matter over and send us, if possible, a favorable reply.
Director.
Yours very sincerely,
Charles D. Atkins
