Personal.

My dear Anderson:

I have received your letter of June 13th and have read it with much interest. I would suggest that you make application to the Surgeon General of the Navy for service in the Naval Reserve Corps. My belief, though I am not sure about this, is that you can be examined in Richmond. If you state that for the last twelve years you have been engaged in work on mental and nervous diseases, it is doubtful whether you will be assigned to active duty. I do not believe that many specialists in this work are being called upon for duty in the Navy at this time. I think, however, it would be a patriotic thing, if you so feel, to offer your services whether they are accepted or not. If I can be of any service to you, don’t hesitate to call on me.

With warm personal regards,

Sincerely yours,

Cary T. Grayson
