My dear Admiral

I refrained from writing you to express my poignant regret regarding the Presidents illness for I knew you would be overwhelmed with letters, but I can assure you my sympathy is heart felt, and I hope you will express it to him if you feel you can.

His well being is of such infinite importance to the world to-day, that I am sure no one more favorably wishes for his recovery than myself. As I view it, the hope of the world lies in the successful establishment of the League of Nations, and to have its chief sponsor smitten is a grievous blow. I trust that in your skillful hands—and those of your associates—he may soon be able to again take command of the forces the struggle now going on
