My dear Cary
I am enclosing you a letter which explains itself. Could you give me a statement in confidence and I would not, of course, use your name about this.
The opposition to Smith in this State is serious and after I talked iwith him for three hours Wednesday night and after Carter Glass talked with him two hours Tuesday night, we could not budge on his wet declaration.
Did you ever see my article on Woodrow Wilson and Prohibition? I am enclosing you a copy which I thought you might like to read.
With my warm regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
Josephus Daniels
