Dearest Trudie
I am, of course, terribly disappointed not to meet you to-day at Saratoga, but it could not be helped. President Coolidge ordered me to accompany Mr. Wilson to the funeral Wednesday. A strange co-incidence—Mr. Wilson in a letter to President Coolidge asked that I be detailed to go with him. I am trying to persuade Mr. Wilson that he participate in the parade from the White House to the Capital only. Not go in the Capital for the funeral services. All Washington is in a gloom of sadness. The heat, particularly the humidity is the worse known here.
Hope you have a good time and the horses do well. Those under Mr Burch evidently have gone amiss in training, or something wrong, as he does not start any of them.
Please tell the Barklies how disappointed and sorry I am not to be able to be with them sooner. I have sent them several telegrams. My plans are to leave here at four o’clock, arrive Saratoga Morning—Hope Fluvanna does well to-day, but most likely some light weighted one will beat her.
With all my love—
Cary
