Dearest
After a fairly good night’s rest on the train I arrived safely yesterday morning one haf hour half hour late and found Mr. Ross glad to see me. Yesterday and to-day are very lonely days for me because I miss you and the boys so much. Without you, Washington, to me, has much the appearance of the great Sahara desert. It is very hot you here and my office is sweltering. I have not felt the heat more keenly all summer.
Things went well during my absence with Mr. Wilson. I spent much of yesterday breaking in a new nurse. It is going to be trying for the next week or so.
I have not seen Emily Taylor yet but am trying to locate her. Telegraphed Barbara to-day. Both Barbara & Emily are booked to sail to Italy on aboard the Majestic. The finances seem a little better than we expected. Stitt is away, I have gathered most of my information from Dr. Gibson in the Bureau of Medicine & Surgery; he has seen Barbara and talked extensively with her. Gibson advises me strongly not to interfer with Emily going to Italy.
The Navy wMutual Aid furnished $5,000 at once. Dr Rixey is sick again, but better to-day. I am going to see him after 4.30—then try to locate Emily.
Please send the little booklet of the Black Mountain Mortgage which I mailed you. Stetson loaned it to Rozier Dulany and Stetson is asking Dulany for it daily. No news from the National Savings & Trust about Black Mountain.
I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed my visit with you, but am terribly lonely now. I am enclosing two surprises—(1) Captain Gilmoor’s marriage and your betting account at Saratoga.
Hope you and Zoona got home safely from Kingston Monday night. The visit did lots of good but I needed more of it—
I love you, Trudie dear, with all my heart.
