Dearest

Bad day but it might have been worse. Love Tap finished second in record time. Gnome finished fourth but pulled up sound. His defeat was due to the fact that he was not ready for a long race. He needs several more races but before he returns to his old time form.

Arrived in New York night. Spent the night with Baruch—motored to Saratoga , arriving here at eight o’clocdk; fine ride—It is almost uncomfortably cool here. Feeling fine. Got up at five o’clock this A.M; rode Dixie for three hours & feel fine. Big crowd here & met many old acquaintances, Riddles, Jeffords, Schwartz. Had a telegram from Mrs. Barlie asking me to bet on Gnome—but I didn’t do it, all well. Will write to-morrow. Dearest love to you the boys. I miss you very much. Think of you all a lot.
