Dearest,
We arrived safely last evening a few minutes before seven. We were delayed on the road by the Repairing party of workmen and a storm. Irene said the ride was a treat. I dined with Mr. Ross. Spent the night at 1600—Davis slept there also. Alice was on hand early this morning. She was much interested in how you all were etc—, if you liked the house & all about the boys. Very warm here to-day.
Secretary Christian called on me this morning to examine one of his sons which is a complicated case. His mother—the son’s mother—came with the young fellow. I was surprised they called for me. No mention was made of the Brigadier General. I am to see them again in the morning.
I missed seeing Mr. Morgentheau yesterday. Davis said he called twice. Mr. McAdoo also called twice and had gone out to Lock Tavern for dinner. I’ve been unable to reach him to-day. All going smoothly at 2340 S. Street. Had little chance to do much at 1600—My precious, I hope all is going fine with you and those dear little fellows. I am anxious for Saturday to come. Kiss all the boys for me and several for my darling Trudie—
Affectionately & devotedly
