Dearest Trudie

We are now well out on the briny deep and so far I am holding my own—from that horrible disease—Nausea Marina—in a most pleasing and satisfactory manner. But, I am not boasting a because I realize what a few waves may bring forth.

Yesterday after lunch George Creel shook hands good-bye, saying, “I thank God for one good meal, I don’t know when I shall enjoy another.” He has not been seen since. The ship is very comfortable and it is said to be the best sea going of all. Let us hope this is true.

I have not gotten acquainted yet, but the State Department seems to have gone the limit in brig bringing every one—wives in galore—not to mention numerous minor officials. The President showed keen disappointment of over their actions.

The party consists of—The President, Mrs. Wilson, Rear Admiral Grayson, Miss Benham, Hoover, Murphy & his secret service men.

The French Ambassador and Madame Jusserand. The Italian Ambassador and Madame Cellere—and two children. Secretary & Mrs. Lansing, Ambassador and Mrs. Davis. Mr. Henry White. Rear Admiral Knapp—(Poor Admiral Helm, absent.). Mr.& Mrs. Mases. Mrs. Gordon Auchincloss. Several unknown ladies, Mrs. Admiral Benson, Brigadier General Churchill and four majors as aides,—all wondering why?

Mr. John Sanford, the father of young Stephen—sent me the very finest basket of fruit I have ever seen and the largest. It must have cost a hundred dollars, or more. We are enjoying it immensely. Hoover is supremely enjoying the trip, so far.
