Dear Sweetheart

I walked in this morning from Westover. I wanted to be sure everything was all right with the President, as the previous night was not a good one for him. Then, I wanted to be sure that his carriage and horses etc—were all safe and all right. He had intended, as I previously wrote you, going in a street car—but I arranged for the carriage and persuaded him not to go in the street car. I think that would be carrying Democratic symplicity too far, not to mention the lack of safety.

It is a beautiful morning and Miss E. is well enough to be out. They both looked fine and drove off in great style and were given a great ovation by a large crowd as they drove out of the White House gate.

Some day I hope to have a beautiful team and fine equipped livery for Mrs. G.

The streets seem deserted this morning. It looks so queer. All of the old night livers are out and the deep sea going cabs, and all doing a flourishing business.

Hope the weather is beautiful with you to-day. It would more beautiful and balmy here if my sweetheart were with me.

Old man BMB is home out at West Over having a quiet but pleasant time.

The gasoline order is very unpopular and generally considered unwise as it hurts so many poor and working people who can go out for recreation on Sunday only. Why not deal out a certain proportion of gasoline to each car owner & let them use it any time or day they desire?

I hope Gordon is doing better to-day and that you feeling an improvement too.

I wish that I were close enough to whisper in your ear how warmly my beats for the dearest of all girls—my Trudie—
