Mr. William Woodword
11 Nassau Street,
New York, NY

My dear Mr. Woodward:

I feel quite guilty for not writing to you long before this to tell you how much pleasure the sheep from Belair Farm have given the President and Mrs. Wilson.

They have been admired by hundreds of people and they certainly make a beautiful picture on the White House lawn.

You may not be aware, directly, just how much you have contributed to the Red Cross. The wool from the shelep amounted to ninty-seven pounds and the President presented two pounds to each State, to be auctioned by theor respective Governors and the proceeds to go to the Red Cross. As yet I do not know the total income from the forty-eight States, but I will let you know when I get the total figurews. From what I heard was bid the cheapest was $100 per pound and the highest was $5,000 per pound. At any rate, I think it is safe to predict that Belair Farm sheep lead the world in the production of the most pricely wool.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate all your kindness in letting the President have these sheep, which is deeply appreciated by both President and Mrs. Wilson. The President has asked me for the bill for them, but I have to put him off until I can communicate with you. Unless he calls me to time, I am going to continue to just pass it from his mind until I see you. You have been more than generous and kind, so please do not let me impose too much on your good nature and kind heart.

When I next come to New York, I am going to give myself the pleasure of calling on you. In the meantime, should you visit Washington, at any time, I wish you would let me know so that I amy look you up.

Yours very sincerely,

Cary T. Grayson
