Text

Dear Governor:

Since writing you this morning Mezes has telephoned from New York very much what Colcord wired, except that General Goethals hopes you will indicate to him tomorrow that he is free to talk with you about his difficulties.
Unless you do, he thinks as your subordinate he ought not to initiate it himself.Colcord's telegram and Mezes' telephone must have been inspired by the General, and indicate much feeling on the subject.Magnolia, Massachusetts.June 21, 1917.

Affectionately yours,
