Text

My dear Mr. Thackwell:

Public engagements of all sorts have delayed my acknowledging your letter of March twenty-second, but you may be sure that the offer in it of your services has gratified me very much indeed. I am going to take the liberty of filing it with the War Department, who may very well come to the point when they shall need assistance of the sort which I am sure you can render.Mrs. Wilson and Helen Bones unite with me in sending our best wishes to Helen and yourself. I wish it might have been possible to see you at the time of my inauguration.

Cordially and sincerely yours,
Woodrow Wilson

Mr. H. Lawrence Thackwell,
Civil Engineer,
