My darling Jessie

I am later than usual in writing this week having been more than ever interrupted by “social engagements,”—both entertaining and being entertained! Then in the evenings I have been hard at it “bedding up” the house. It is in the most apple-pie order from cellar to attic and certainly looks dainty and pretty. I have also been making the new cushions, &c. for your room at last. All is done except the bed curtains,—I can't hem them because I have lost the measure; they are finished otherwise so bring the exact length with you and I will put in the lower hem while you are here. Please bring also the measurements of those two pillows which you wished to have covered for sofa cushions. I have bought some very pretty stuff for the purpose. Since you are coming so soon it is not worth while to send the things; you can take them back with you if you leave room enough in your trunk.
We were all immensely interested in your fraternity frolics. I am glad you have had so much fun,—and rather glad that we may now expect life to go more quietly and regularly with you all! I am very sorry about your disappointments in not getting your friends in the same fraternity with you. It is too bad! I hope this faternity feeling is not so intense that it will spoil friendships.—We don't know yet when you are coming,—I hope Wed. night. Let us know in good time and what train to meet you. We haven't heard a word from Aunt Madge; she was to have cabled from Naples but she did not do it,—forgot all about it I suppose. As Papa says she has just “dropped into space, in her usual fashion” We could not find anything about the ship in the papers either so we finally telegraphed to the S.
S. company in New York & learned that it arrived safely in Naples Wednesday morning. That was a long voyage—nearly two weeks.
There is no news except that Rebeccas Purvis' wedding invitation is out, for the eighth of December at half past four in the church. The Owens gave a coming out party to the Purvis'. It was amusing to see three sisters in a row, all “coming out” at once! Mrs. Libbey is giving a huge one to Celsie.
I went this afternoon to call on Mrs. & Miss Lashe, who are at the Inn. Mrs. Lashe seems very well again. But it is nearly time for the preacher to come & I must stop. Papa makes a speech in N.
Y. tonight & will not return until tomorrow morning. With dearest love

Your devoted
Mother
