My dear Cousin:
Your note was very welcome and I thank you for it very warmly. You may be sure that no personal desire of mine prompted me to run again. I was willing only because it seemed to me that it was necessary for me to do so in order to hold together what had already been accomplished. I must admit that I look forward to the next four years with something of a sinking heart, because I am afraid the problems of those years may be even more difficult than the problems of the years that have gone by, but no one who is serving this great nation can afford to have a faint heart. With warmest appreciation,
Sincerely yours, Woodrow Wilson
