My dear Mr. Hoover

I do not know anything about the appointment referred to in the envclosed letter except that I take it for granted that Mr. Stearn’s name was one of those which you submitted to me on a list. Perhaps Vance McCormick was not fully informed in advising you about that particular appointment, but I suppose that water has passed over the wheel, and I would like ta tip from you as to what you know about Mr. Stearns, that I may reply to the enclosed.
