Text

My dear Mr. Hoover

On the whole, I think that Mr. Carter Harrison of Chicago is rather too much of a politician to be entrusted with such matters as you had in mind when you wrote your letter of August thirty-first.

After you suggested a certain college president to me, I was thinking over the men available of that kind and two men occurred to me whom I think you would find satisfactory in every respect. One is President Meiklejohn of Amherst; the other, Professor Henry B. Fine of Princeton.

I wish I knew someone to suggest for the function you had in mind for Mr. Harrison. On the whole, I think for the present we had better leave the brewing trade alone until the situation develops more clearly.

Cordially and sincerely yours,

Woodrow Wilson
