Dear Mr. Tumulty
Mr. John Beaver White and I have been asked by the Committee, which was recently requested by the President to co-operate with the Commission for Relief in Belgium, to meet Mr. Brand Whitlock at Quarantine when he arrives on Sunday. Our object is to accord him a hearty welcome and to mark our deep appreciation of his humane work on behalf of the destitute civilian population in Belgium.
If there is any message of appreciation of Mr. Whitlock’s work in connection with the Commission for Relief in Belgium which we could convey to him from the President it would, of course, be an honour for us to be entrusted with it and apart from the pleasure such a message would give Mr. Whitlock, the expression of the President’s views would be of great assistance to the humane and neutral work which has been carried on under Mr. Whitlock’s supervision and with his invaluable co-operation.
Perhaps you would be kind enough to write or telegraph me if there is any such message, which we could deliver.
Sincerely yours,
[C.R.B. N.Y.]
