My evidence is growing stronger every day that Carden knew about couop d’ etat in advance of its occurrence. The French Consul here in a writeten statement to me asserts that the four Vera Cruz Legislators who were taken from the MORRO CASTLE were apprehended and imprisoned because they refused to take action required in the interest of Lord Cowdary’s concession in that State. I am inveestigating this question carefully. I trust you will not think me obsessed upon the subject. # I am so pe rsistent in urging it upbon your attention at this time is because I believe that it will save us untold complications if this Congress, conceived in fraud and corruption, is not permitted to convene on November fifteenth as is the plan. With adequate encouragement the rebels could be before that xxxxxif the gates of Mexico before that time if no tother plan is contemplated.
