My dear Governor:
I cannot refrain from giving myself the opportunity to say to you that you have begun your fight along exactly the right lines. Undoubtedly, there is a portion of our party which has been working, not for us, but against us, and which will do so at every opportunity. There can be no real truce or alliance between us and I believe that you never did anything to set your cause and ours forward more distinctly than to come out at the very beginning as you did in direct avowal of the facts. Along this line lies victory; along any other may lie defeat. The people of the State supported me in these things; and they will support you, for New Jersey is for clean, decent government, as you say.
Thank you warmly for your letter of October fourth.
Faithfully yours,
Woodrow Wilson

Hon. James F. Fielder,
Governor of New Jersey.
