Text

Hon Woodrow Wilson
President of the U. S.
Washington, DC
Dear Sir:

One Frank Hague who for a year or two has been the leader of the Smith Old Gang in Jersey City has secured a nomination under the Walsh Act for membership in the Commission Government board. You have reason to know who he is and what his election would mean.
It would mean a foothold in this county for the Democratic reactionaries of Essex and the weakening of the wall which we have kept up against them since the Smith–Martine fight.
I sincerely hope that you will see your way clear, not to take any part for or against any other candidate, but to sound a rallying cry to the Progressive Democrats of Jersey City to defeat Hague and those with whome he represents. Such a course on your part would be extremely helpful to us.address all communications to the above and not to individuals.
