Washington, DC
My dear Mr. President:–
I am in receipt of your letter of the fourteenth instant, in reference to the data you desire prepared for you when you take up the consideration of the tariff bill. I have had prepared for the use of my committee the information suggested in your letter relating to each paragraph. I expect to have it brough up to date shortly and will have it ready to lay before you by the time that the tariff bill is in shape for your consideration before we introduce it to the caucus. I do not think that I can get the matters ready in less than a week but as soon as they are ready, I will phone Mr. Tumulty and ask you for an appointment and bring them down.
