CABLEGRAM
Received at the War Department
November 29th, 1918
From HAEF 10:35p
To The Adjutant General, Washington
Number 1940 November 29th Confidential Rush
For the Chief of Staff. Reference A. 2259 Troops now in Italy not needed here and unless other considerations so demand consider it advisable not to request rail transportation for them. We are having very great difficulty in obtaining rail services for indispensable movements and requests for trains to move troops from Italy would still further embarrass rail situation. I assume that difficulties and complications referred to in A 2259 are connected with employment of our troops beyond Italian boundary. On this assumption I recommend that I be directed to arrange to assemble these troops at an Italian port and return them to the United States direct. Request reply be expedited. Pershing.
