Text
My dear Mr. President:
There is a grave chance that the Suffrage Amendment may lose by a single vote. Even if it goes through, more Republican votes will be cast for it than Democratic votes.
This morning I received the exact information, with proof, that the Republicans will make the entire matter a campaign issue in every one of the equal suffrage states.
I feel deeply that the passage of this Amendment is a war necessity for it will release the minds and energies of thousands of women for war work and war enthusiasm. I feel deeply also that it is necessary to have the Administration receive full credit for its consistently courageous and friendly attitude.
Is it not possible for you to go before the Senate in support of the Amendment as an urgent war measure? Aside from its effect in this country, there is a wonderful effect that it will have on the world at large.
Respectfully,
George Creel
Chairman.
The President,
The White House,
Washington, DC
