Text

[Our grandfather was 81 when he wrote this letter.]

65. Sackville Road, North Heaton,
Newcastle on Tyne, Sep. 23. 1919.

My dear Wynnie,

I was very pleased to get your letter of the 19th, conveying your good wishes for my birthday, for which please accept my thanks, and also for the two postal orders.

We are glad to know you are all well, and that you have enjoyed the lovely summer weather we have had lately.

I note Jack is very busy in Paris, but I hope he will get over to you soon. It’s a good thing he keeps well, which will make you less anxious. They must be in a bad way in France, far worse than we are.

I am glad to say we are both well, and getting on nicely, and when the weather is decent, we get out for fresh air as much as we can.

I was delighted with the children’s letters. Please give them my love and tell them I will write to them soon.

Eva and family are still away, and will be for another week. They are all well and enjoying the country and sea very much.

I am pleased the children like the “Chronicle.” I must send them a copy now and then.

We have not heard for a while how your Aunt Jennie is, but we fear she is not making much progress. She and Miss Spence are still at Gilling, so Uncle Robert has to do for himself.

I am glad Billie is going to a higher school, we know where it is as we could see the boys when at Miss Broadbents.

Now, my dear, I must conclude, and again thanking you for your good wishes for my birthday, and the orders.

Mother who is beside me while writing, sends her dear love to yourself and the children in which I join.

Ever your loving father,
WG Fearon
