Dearest,

Glad to learn from yours of last Monday that you had explained to the principal of the College that I was away; it seemed so annoying to miss the date; I don’t know whether it is at all a vital point but if it was, I couldn’t help the delay, of course no letters could be sent after me as I was constantly on the move, and never knew how long I should be in any one place.

That certainly is a wonderful idea of Minnie Bacon’s; I would jump at that offer if I were you; there aren’t many chances like that.

I tried Niemam again on the phone but he wasn’t there. I shall try again tomorrow. Next week I start my old hours, 5 pm till midnight, - they seem to pursue me – so that I shall have time to do some things for myself, or rather, for the family.

Bodker of Reuters told me yesterday how his two girls (eldest 15) were coming all by themselves to Berlin for Xmas from their Belgian school, and Mrs. Bodker had been rather anxious and had written full particulars and advice galore for this long journey. Whereupon the 15 year old writes: “Dear Mother, please don’t worry, we know what to do; do take life more easily, as we do!!” Which amused him no end.

Poor Cousin Alice seems in a bad way; I thought something must have happened to her last time I saw her. Thanks, Mary, for your note, have a little more patience, dear, because I want you to have a decent home when you do leave us.

I will send you some of the stories I wrote from Lithuania, the photos with it have of course gone to New York. They were most interesting and I hope they reproduce well.

Love to all,
Dac
