Dearest,

Just a line to accompany the monthly draft for £40 which I must get quickly before the banks close, as it is early closing for them, today. I am writing this at the hotel before going out, and the inkwells are of course almost dry.

In the country yesterday – I sent a postcard to Bill. It was a glorious day, misty towards the end and quite a London fog on today; the smell is familiar.

The other day I sent the children a roll containing a French picture book with puzzles which is a good way for them of learning French. Also an Alsace-Lorraine frieze which I saw at a paperhanger’s shop & which I liked; perhaps it will do for their room, over the mantelpiece.

There is a strike of newspaper compositors, long may it continue!!!

            With love to all,
                        Thine
                Jack
