Text

Dear Cary

I have been here since the funeral at work upon a Life of Woodrow Wilson. I am going to be in Washington the last part of the week and I want to see you and have a talk with you.

I undertook this work with some reluctance, but as other lives of Wilson were being printed and put in immediate circulation, I felt that a sympathetic life for the average reader would really serve a good purpose. My work will, of course, be prepared necessarily without the time to examine documents, etc., but it will be sympathetic and appreciative.

I feel quite certain that someone authorized by Mrs. Wilson will write a comprehensive life. I suppose perhaps Ray Stannard Baker will do it, and that you will some day write the personal Woodrow Wilson.

I will call you up as soon as I get to Washington.

Sincerely yours,

Josephus Daniels
