Text

Dear Mr. Baruch

No doubt you will be very much surprised to hear from me, and even more so when you read that I am asking a favor of you. However if any one can grant it I know that you can.

The ship I am in at present, the “Florida,” sails for Cuba in January, to be gone four months. Under ordinary circumstances I’d like very much to go too, but as I expect to become a proud father in March I want to be as near Mrs. Cooley as I can. She will be in Washington with her mother and I am wondering if you can get me detached and sent to something if not in Washington something near by as Philadelphia.

I shall be very grateful if you can do anything for me. Please give my regards to Mrs. Baruch and Belle.
