Dear Bernie

Gertrude and Mrs. Wilson have talked over the Chicago trip and all want to go together. I agree with you that it wouldn’t be wise to go out there two or three days ahead of time. We are going to have a fine trip - thanks to you.

I sent you a note yesterday, telling you that Carter Glass and I would be over for the prize fight. Since they side-tracked his bill while he was down at the Democratic Convention in Richmond last Saturday, he is in real fighting trim. He can either hit or bite! Tom Connally is terribly disappointed that he cant be with us, but as I wrote you, he is booked to speak to the Confederate Veterans in Richmond on the 21st.
