My dear Grayson
I am delighted to get your letter of congratulations. It gives me much pleasure to get “them pleasing words” from you.
I have been assigned to this interesting station but I do not care where my duty lies or what they give me, provided plenty of hard work and responsibility be involved.
I look forward to seeing you again. If you think proper, I will be pleased to have you remember me to the President and to express my sincerest thanks that he saw fit to appoint me a Brigadier.
Sincerely yours,
Henry T. Allen
