Text

My dear Admiral Grayson

Mr. Harrison delivered your gracious message, but unhappily for me I had an engagement with the proof sheets of an overdue brief which I have only now gotten into the Airmail to the printer, and it is nearly midnight! So I had to forego the very great pleasure seeing you and Mrs Grayson this time.

I trust the rumor that you have recently been less than entirely well, which I heard from Mr Light here at the Willard today, only means that you are having one of my kind of illnesses. I have had two delightful months when doctors would not let me do anything but read, so that being ill is a sort of post graduate adult educational course to me!

With warm good wishes for the New Year to you and Mrs Grayson, in which Mrs Baker will be glad to know I have associated her, I am

Cordially yours,

Newton D. Baker
