an’t you have President do more mixing with people, if it can be done with safety? Stories that come over only show tribute President as an official. Living in a palace and guarded by soldiery makes bad impression here. Try to get newspaper men Probert, Bender and Nevin to inject some emotion in stories. Can’t President meet poilus and American soldiers fact to face and shake hands with them? Could he not walk or ride down Champs Elysees unannounced? President’s smile is wonderful. Get this over in some way. Can’t you find some way to bring him in immediate contact with men and women in France who are not official. Is he going to ride horseback? Can’t President and Mrs. Wilson visit American, French and English hospitals? Show President this telegram. Everything fine here. Mrs. Grayson and baby well. Tell Close family well. Slye well. Send love.
