My dearest one,
I left Stamford weighing 146 pounds; to-day, I am afraid that I have oozed six pounds away. This has been a terrific hot day. I hope it has been cooler at Shippen Point. This morning, the President and I played a game of golf over at the Virginia course. It did us good, but it was not so hot as later in the day.
the President has been wanting to go to Keiths’ all the week—but I have persuaded him otherwise, until to-day he insisted that he felt real well again and he did not mind the heat. I went with them. It was a fine program. We have just returned from a ride around the Potomac Park—I am going to try to run up to spend a day or two with you and the boys next week, as indications now point to our departure from Washington for the west next Sunday, August 3rd. The Board will most likely discuss and vote and and sign all necessary papers, so I’ll probably spend with you, But will either telephone or telegraph you. I wish that I could spend all next week with you. I continue to miss you & the boys dreadfully.
