Text
Paris,
My dear Mr. Secretary
I purposely delayed answering your letter in the hope that I could gather some definite information concerning the signing of the Peace Treaty before writing you. However, at this time I have to report that the matter of the signing of the treaty is indefinite. I shall keep you in mind daily and should any developments arise favorable to its being signed somewhere near the eighth of May, you may be sure that I shall communicate with you at once. I sincerely hope that you and Mrs. Daniels may have the opportunity of being present at such an historical event. It is an occasion that you should not miss.
Aside from the Italian situation, everything is moving along in an even tenor, except that the President is working too hard. Physically he is holding up remarkably well. If he knew I were writing he would join in affectionate regards both to Mrs. Daniels and yourself.
Believe me,
Faithfully yours,
Cary T. Grayson
