I have your letters of recent date which were gladly received and would have answered them before this time but owing to an acute attack of the gall-bladder which I was stricken with last Tuesday and which put me in bed for about 9 nine days but to-day I am up and feeling fairly well. Could feel better and could feel a heap worse but I am glad to say that I am to-day down in my office.

In regard to the man you spoke about taking ten or twelve of my horses to train, that is also mighty nice of you and him to make this nice offer but I think Paul and Guy have concluded to let McElroy take about half and Dick Vestel the other half and go ahead and race them this year, however, I will remember your letter and next year possibly we can work out a scheme that will be satisfactory to all concerned. My horses at the farm and doing exceedingly nicely, Broadway is training fine, he does everything that we ask him to do and I think he is the nicest colt I ever looked at in my life; also Kilkerry is training fine and if they go on and do as well in the future as they are doing now, I know of no reason why they won’t have a fair chance in the derby. I hope the boy you wrote me about to ride Broadway won’t change his darn mind or let anything else prohibit him from making this ride, I certainly want a fair show in every way, rider, starter, etc. I see no reason why we shouldn’t have a pretty fair chance to be in the money at least. Think we ship to Kentucky about the , I would like to get them up there so they can get used to the water and air and get acclimated before the race comes off. Mr. Vestel has them in very nice shape, I never had a stable of horses that looked as well as they do since I have been handling race horses. I think he is a very fine conditioner and have no doubt but that they will be ready to go if everything workes out as we expect.

Right now I don’t feel like I can be present at the Derby, I only wish I could but don’t know for certain, its a long way up there and my eye-sight is so poor that I hate to go up there and be bumped around by those good looking Kentucky girls as you know they are quite tame and don’t care to bump an old Texas man pretty hard. I don’t know as yet whether Arlington is going to get the hospital or not but I do hope they will for it will be a great aid for us in the way of putting our bill through in 1931. We are working hard on that now in a quiet way, not making any fuss over it but trying to elect the right senators and congressmen and so far it seems very flattering to everyone concerned only me, I don’t ever feel like I will win anything until I have won. Hope this will find you and your little family well and happy and I am as ever
