Dear Cary
Is it only another case of idle gossip or are you really ready this time for congratulations and envy? You have been the rumored hero of so many beautiful fictions that I am getting a bit skeptical about these periodical announcements of your bliss. I have clambered up on the economy wagon a half dozen times in order to be prepared to send a princely wedding present to the several girls that the newspapers have married you to, and every time the girl has slipped through your fingers, or you through hers, and I have been left with a lot of money on my hands that I have had all sorts of trouble in getting rid of. From all that I hear of the lady of this latest romance you are in the greatest luck of your life, and as soon as I know that it is real and not just another pipe dream I will arrange for a mortgage on the house and see if Tiffany has anything really worthy of the family and of the lovely new addition to it.
Always
Faithfully yours
