My dearest Trudie
Your very welcome letter came this morning and I can assure you that I was truly happy to receive it and for all the good news it brought from you and the boys. Saturday I played golf with Mr. Justice McReynolds and we dined at Chevy Chase Club—Early I had a busy call to come out to see Dr PM Rixey, Dr Stine went with me, we found the Doctor better off than we anticipated from his past history, and the urgency of Mrs. Rixey’s call at that hour. He is planning to have a big birth-day party on next to which I am going. Dined with Judge Payne last night—only us two. He is motoring to Chicago next but dining with Mrs. Walsh informally night. Then, he is going to Paris on Red Cross duty. I am delighted the Barklies want me too. I’ll be there Thursday or Friday, the 3rd or the 4th of August. Hope the situation on S. Street will not prevent my going. Don’t mention it. He concerns me very much. Fine news about your returns from your estate. Hope the crowd? at the Carlton will not disturb Mrs. Barklies rest & pleasure of her stay there.
