Dearest

Love Tap repeated one of her usual tricks by being in the money, running 3rd. Fast Company, the winner was second in the Preakness at Pimlico—the biggest purse of the year—$50,000—we were hoping that Love Tap would win, but were well prepared for defeat.

Had a note from Baruch saying that he would be back Thursday. To-night Ed. Simms had a dinner party and all went to the Gale of Colts afterwards—Mr & Mrs Riddle, Jim Maddux, Mr. Deford of Baltimore, Mrs. Walsh, St. Louis who says she is kin to me—Col. Bradford US. Marine Corps—& a Miss McClelland, Kentucky. Thought the enclosed would interest you.

The weather here is superb. I am getting fat. Take very few meals at the hotel—most of them at the stable kitchen—Hope to have better luck next week. The condition of the races have not been suitable for our horses—Walker’s sale is to-morrow night. He shows symptoms of nervousness, but indications are, I think, encouraging for his sale. I certainly hope it will be good—Mr. Ross is in fine form, I have ordered Gordon & Cary’s lamps. I continue to miss you very much. With a heartfull of love for you and the boys.

Yours ever,

CTG
