Dear Douglas:

Immediately upon the receipt of your letter I took up your case with the Secretary of State and he has assured me that your appointment to consular rank will go through. He tells me that probably in the course of a few weeks you will be definitely instructed as to your oath and entrance upon duties. I was glad to be of service to you in this matter. If there is anything further I can do for you at any time, don’t hesitate to call upon me.

It was a great pleasure to hear from you. I called on your father and mother this morning thinking that I might have a word direct from them to you, but I was informed at the Portland that they were both out. I infer that they are enjoying good health.

With warm regards and best wishes for you and yours, I am,

Sincerely,

Your friend,

Cary T. Grayson
