Hon. Wm. G. McAdoo
Dear Sir
Since the return of the roads to private ownership, Mr. Claggett has been kind enough to use me as messenger at his office, but of course within a few days that will be discontinued, and I will be out of a job, with a wife and five children to support.
It seems as though the Pullman Company is sore on me for leaving them to come with you but as I knew it was my patriotic duty as an American Citizen to help win the war, I resigned so that I could make the liberty loan trips with you and to help as Dr. Grayson said to look after your health. I served four years with Mr. Taft as private car cook, and of course as you know I have been with your Father-in-law President Wilson eversince he became President.
With nearly twelves years detailed as cook for the chiefs of the land, I am asking you please Sir: If you will kindly speak to the President and Dr. Grayson to make an executive appointment for me in one of the many government buildings, and of course when I am wanted for a trip on the road I will be the official cook.
Sorry indeed to worry you at these busy times, but it is a case of humanity.
I am your humble servant
